IV Therapy
IV (intravenous) vitamin therapy delivers vitamins and nutrients directly into the bloodstream. This therapy has been used since the 1980s. It became popular after Dr. Myers developed the Myers Cocktail. The Myers Cocktail contains vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, calcium, and magnesium. The formula can be adjusted based on patient needs and provider preference. IV therapy is often used by athletes before or after athletic events. It can help support performance and recovery. It may also be used during short-term illnesses such as COVID-19 or stomach upset. Some patients use IV therapy to support long-term conditions such as asthma, migraines, or fibromyalgia. People who struggle with low energy may also benefit from IV therapy. Patients who have had weight-loss surgery, such as gastric bypass, may also benefit from IV vitamin therapy.
When vitamins are taken through food or supplements, they must pass through the stomach, intestines, and liver. During this process, only part of the nutrients are absorbed. Because of this, fewer nutrients may reach the body’s cells. IV therapy bypasses the digestive system. Vitamins and nutrients enter the bloodstream right away. This allows them to reach the cells more quickly.
Common ingredients used in IV vitamin therapy include Vitamin C (ascorbic acid, a strong antioxidant that supports immune health and energy), B-complex vitamins (support energy production, metabolism, and healthy aging), Calcium (supports muscle movement, bone health, and normal blood clotting), Zinc (helps regulate the immune system), Magnesium
(supports muscle relaxation, sleep, and pain relief), Glutathione (a powerful antioxidant that supports detox and immune health)
Below is a list of IV vitamin therapies available at Compassion Primary Care. Because this is a mobile practice, we travel to you for vitamin infusions. Before the infusion, an initial virtual visit will be scheduled. During this visit we discuss the goal of the infusion, review your medical history, and confirm there are no reasons that would prevent IV therapy. Mileage charges may apply. Once the vitamin infusion appointment is scheduled, refunds are not available. If the appointment needs to be moved, please contact us. We will reschedule based on availability.
IV infusions usually take about one hour or more, depending on the nutrients used. Side effects from IV vitamin therapy are uncommon. Some people may have sensitivity to certain ingredients. Magnesium may sometimes cause flushing or a brief drop in blood pressure. However, patients are monitored during the infusion.
